Student Workstation S-Rail dealing with preventable deaths
Yonsei University's workstation team ‘S-Rail’ produces maps of Yeongdeungpo Jjokbangchon, which is a representative medical blind spot, installing emergency bells, and conducts visiting nursing for residents of Jjokbangchon to prevent "preventable deaths." In order to overcome the poor nutritional status of residents and limitations in medical welfare due to the various economic reasons, ‘S-Rail’ team is implementing SDG 3.8 Achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all by linking residents who need additional medical treatment as well as mapping Jjokbangchon and installing an emergency bell system.
KOICA-Yonsei Medical Center distributes "Korea Response to COVID-19" videos to medical teams in 100 countries.
Yonsei Medical Center, along with KOICA, conducted a "global online training" to effectively respond to COVID-19 in developing countries and strengthen medical staff's capabilities. Under the theme of "Diagnostic Test Methods for Response to COVID-19”, the video contains wearing personal protective equipment, emergency room management, sample collection and transfer, COVID-19 diagnostic tests, and clinical characteristics and treatment. KOICA posted the video on their website and YouTube channel called ‘KOICA-Yonsei: COVID-19 Program.’ Medical staff can watch educational videos anytime, anywhere all around the world. The video, which informs medical personnel from more than 100 countries of Korea’s know-how in line with the spread of COVID-19, is produced in English, French, Spanish, and Arabic to end and combat the global epidemic of infectious diseases in connection with SDG 3.3. It also aims to enable all learners to gain health-related knowledge through education for sustainable development by interposing images on platforms that everyone can see (SDG 4.7).
LearnUs: Medical Resource Allocation in the COVID-19 Pandemic
It provides courses that provide an introductory approach to various problems that may arise in pandemics such as COVID-19 through medical ethics and is instructed by professor Junhewk Kim from Yonsei Dental School. If local infections spread rapidly, such as Daegu in March 2020 and the Seoul metropolitan area in November 2020, there will be a shortage of medical resources in that area. In addition, there may be problems with who should be provided first in a situation where supplies such as vaccines are insufficient. It contributes to the achievement of SDG 3.8 Achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all by providing an opportunity to think deeply about these issues.
