Providing consulting to Gangjin-gun on revival of tea culture

Gangjin-gun is where Dasan Jeong Yak-yong, the best practical scholar in the late Joseon Dynasty selected as a UNESCO world cultural figure, had lived for 18 years of exile. Staying in Gangjin, Dasan created and vitalized tea culture by commercializing tea trees and benefiting the citizens. With his work, Gangjin-gun could be rich in historical tea data, however, its tea culture content is insufficient and not differentiated. Thus, Ganjin-gun asked for a consulting service that can modernize its representative tea content, where Yonsei University Institute of Korean Studies sought the importance of keeping cultural heritage. Yonsei provided consulting with 3 stages; to define and analyze Dasan culture, design specified roadmap, and program development based on professionals’ advice and community demands, which would greatly contribute to achieving SDG 11.4 Strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage.
