Yonsei University (President Yoon Dong-Sup) participated in the 5th Sustainable Campus Initiative Workshop held at POSTECH on June 12, 2026.
The workshop brought together the four participating universities of the Sustainable Campus Initiative—Korea University, Seoul National University, POSTECH, and Yonsei University—and was conducted under the theme, “University Sustainability Practices and Campus Improvement Cases.”
The workshop was organized to share sustainability-related education and research activities, as well as campus improvement initiatives being implemented at each university, and to discuss collaborative strategies for advancing sustainable development values. Participating institutions introduced their key achievements and operational experiences, exchanging diverse approaches to effectively integrating sustainability into their educational and research systems.
During the workshop, Yonsei University presented the major achievements of the Global Engagement & Empowerment Forum (GEEF) 2026 and shared the results of its analysis of SDG (Sustainable Development Goals)-related curricula. The presentation highlighted how sustainability values are being incorporated into higher education and offered insights into future directions for curriculum development.
Yonsei also introduced igee Proceedings, an academic journal dedicated to sustainable development, as a platform for expanding research outcomes and promoting scholarly exchange among universities. In addition, the university proposed the establishment of a joint journal management system involving all Sustainable Campus Initiative partner institutions. Participants exchanged ideas on strengthening inter-university research collaboration and knowledge sharing while exploring opportunities for future cooperation.
The workshop also featured extensive discussions on institutional frameworks and practical initiatives aimed at embedding sustainability as a core value in university operations. Participants agreed that sharing and connecting educational and research achievements across institutions can play a significant role in advancing sustainable development goals. The importance of building academic networks and expanding collaborative research efforts was also emphasized.
Through its participation in the workshop, Yonsei University shared its achievements in sustainability-related education and research while underscoring the importance of expanding sustainability discourse and practice through inter-university collaboration. The university also expressed its commitment to strengthening the research foundation for sustainable development through new collaborative models, including the joint management of academic publications, and to further promoting mutually beneficial partnerships among universities.
The Sustainable Campus Initiative is a collaborative network established on the basis of a joint declaration by the four participating universities. Moving forward, member institutions will continue to exchange best practices through regular workshops and collaborative activities, while expanding joint research and projects to advance the development of sustainable campuses and foster a more sustainable higher education community.
