Activities

To support a wide range of research activities that contribute to achieving the SDGs, the Social Engagement Fund (SEF) program was launched in July of 2018. Students and researchers around the world were called to submit research and project proposals that emphasized implementing and evaluating the impact of the SDGs, which can also result in tangible outputs on top of knowledge alone. The entries were screened by a number of expert panels.

Our project focuses on raising awareness of the nutritional value of edible insects in Madagascar and proposing a sustainable and self-sufficient method of insect consumption. Through this, we aim to improve food security and the issue of protein deficiency in Madagascar.

This is done through the creation and distribution of the 'Edible insect Leaflet' which provides information on the types, consumption seasons, and nutritional value of local edible insects, and a "Seed Kit" which allows the farming of lima beans - the host plant of the edible insect 'Sakondry'.

From June to December, our team has conducted literary research and created the leaflets and seed kits in South Korea. From late December to early January, we have visited related institutions, led interviews with field experts, and conducted surveys with locals in Madagascar.
