Activities

To support a wide range of research activities that contribute to achieving the SDGs, the Social Engagement Fund (SEF) program was launched in July of 2018. Students and researchers around the world were called to submit research and project proposals that emphasized implementing and evaluating the impact of the SDGs, which can also result in tangible outputs on top of knowledge alone. The entries were screened by a number of expert panels.

Main Goals:
SDG 11 - Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable & SDG 16 - Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. Our project aims to identify the shortcomings of current information websites for foreigners in Korea and eventually come up with a comprehensive solution to help foreigners accelerate their process of adaptation to life in Korea. When information is freely available, it helps foreigners to become well-informed residents, feel more belonging to the communities they live in, and be more motivated to engage in social activities.

Complementary goals:
SDG 3 - Good health and well-being: During COVID-19, many unregistered foreign workers in Korea refused to seek medical treatment because they were afraid that they might be deported. The project wants to provide foreigners with information about healthcare including but not limited to available healthcare services, emergency contacts, vaccinations, local health risks, and support networks.

SDG 4 - Quality Education: Our project does not only target foreigners but also Koreans. Much as multiculturalism has been promoted as a policy initiative since 2006, it is still regarded as a new phenomenon and many foreigners across the countries still receive discrimination in their daily life. Through providing informative and engaging short videos about the cultures’ differences, we aim to share the videos widely on the Internet and raise the understanding and connection between Koreans and foreigners.
